I wanted a space to write about some of my personal experience I’ve had with the Independent Fundamental Baptist church (IFB), and share what I’ve learned in my own journey both in the church and what I’ve learned outside. For over 20 years I was a part of the IFB community, as well as traveling to many IFB churches in the Southeastern US.
Our beliefs and community can affect so many areas of our lives, why not be sure about what we believe? Some of my beliefs I found harmful in my own journey. My hope is to approach topics in a open way, approaching with curiosity, and reason.
Who I Am
I’m Avery! I grew up going to an IFB church every time the doors were open. At least three times a week, Sunday morning, night, and Wednesday night. As a teenager reading through the Bible, I began to have hard questions. These questions led me through doubt, and a learning journey that brought me away from the faith.
I write not to due to resentment of the church, but to verbalize questions I’ve had through my journey, and maybe some in the IFB community have had those same questions. Writing is also a great way to learn, and learning more is one of my core passions.
My desire is not to lead people away from the faith, but to question, and ask for a open mind to other perspectives. And maybe spark a conversation! Email me
